Make Whole Wheat Dough
Pour the crushed graham crackers into a large bowl. You can buy ready-made graham cracker crumbs or make your own. You can make any amount of whole wheat dough as long as you have enough ingredients. But it’s best to try making 6 whole wheat dough balls using 2 cups of graham crackers first.
- Smashing graham crackers is time-consuming and laborious, so if you prefer to do it yourself, try using a mortar and pestle.
Add 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk. Pour the condensed milk into the graham cracker crumbs and stir with a plastic spatula until evenly combined. To get a slightly clumpy yellow mixture, it shouldn’t be too dry or too wet, just enough to hold together lightly.
Knead into whole wheat dough. Scoop a tablespoon of the mixture into the palm of your hand and knead with your hands until the dough forms a round ball.
- Be sure to wash your hands first!
Press the dough into a round cake shape. Place the whole wheat dough in one hand and press gently with the other hand until the surface becomes smooth and even.
- Don’t use too much force or the dough will break easily. Don’t worry about the slightly cracked edges of the dough, because you will roll it back into a ball shape later.
Fill with favorite fillings. Press some mini marshmallows or chocolate chips into the center of the graham dough. You can start by reading the filling ideas in the next step.
- Don’t pack too much filling! Let the marshmallows pile up in the middle of the dough. If there is too much filling, the dough will not close together.
Roll the whole wheat dough into a round ball. If the dough is filled with marshmallows, gently press the center while carefully folding the edges. Bring the edges together at the top of the dough.
- The purpose is to close the dough and enclose the filling inside.
Form the dough into a round shape. Put the closed dough in the palm of your hand, and then gently knead it back and forth into a ball shape, using a little force when kneading. Repeat steps to make more whole wheat dough.
You can make it and eat it now, or you can chill it in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. Then dip it in some icing sugar or grated coconut and serve with milk. You can even wrap the whole wheat balls as gifts or to share with others.
- Whole wheat dough will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks in an airtight container, otherwise it will need to be eaten as quickly as possible within a few days.
