VALENTINE CHOCOLATE KISS COOKIES

Satisfy your chocolate cravings this Valentine’s Day with these irresistible Chocolate Kiss Cookies. The chewy brownie like cookies topped with colorful sprinkles and a Hershey kiss will delight chocolate lovers everywhere.

I absolutely love baking treats for every holiday. Well, quite honestly I love to bake treats any time of the year, but that’s besides the point.

One of my favorite things to make are chocolate cookies with a Hershey kiss on top. A few months ago I made Christmas kiss cookies, so for Valentine’s Day I decided to make a similar chocolate blossom cookie with pink and red sprinkles.

Adding a Hershey’s lava kiss on top of each one was the perfect sweet touch. You can also stuff a cookie with a kiss like these chocolate bon bon cookies.

Head to the kitchen and pull out your baking ingredients and your favorite holiday sprinkles to make a batch of these chocolate kiss cookies for Valentine’s day.

  • Butter – I like to use unsalted, so I can control the amount of salt in the recipe. If you use salted butter, adjust the amount of salt in the recipe.
  • Sugars – A mixture of granulated sugar and brown sugar sweetens the cookie dough.
  • Eggs – Adds the moisture for the dough and holds all the ingredients together.
  • Cocoa Powder – I like to use Hershey’s dark cocoa powder to give these cookies a dark and rich chocolate flavor and look. You can also use regular cocoa for a lighter cookie.
  • Flour – Thickens the dough. See how to measure flour correctly, so your cookies turn out right every time.
  • Hershey Kisses – This recipe uses the lava kisses. You can use any variety of Hershey Kiss that you like. The hugs would be really pretty on these cookies.

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE KISS COOKIES

The dough for these blossom cookies comes together in minutes. Rainbow colored sugars and red, white, and pink sprinkles make them look so pretty. These would make the perfect chocolate Valentine’s cookies for parties!

  1. Mix the wet ingredients. Add the butter and sugars to a large bowl and beat until creamy.  Add eggs and mix again.
  2. Add the dry ingredients. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients until a soft, sticky dough forms. Place the bowl of chocolate cookie dough in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  3. Roll into balls. Divide the chilled dough into 36 even pieces, and roll the dough into a ball. Roll half the balls in sanding sugar and the other half in Valentine nonpareils, then refrigerate the balls another 15 minutes.
  4. Bake and top. Place 12 dough balls at a time on a prepared baking sheet and bake. Remove and let the cookies cool on the hot pan for 2 minutes. Place them on a cooling rack, and immediately press a frozen kiss on top.

STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS

On the Counter – Once the cookies are cool and the chocolate kiss is set, place the kiss cookies in an air tight container. They will keep at room temperature for 4-5 days.

In the Freezer – Wrap the cooled chocolate cookies individually in plastic wrap or place wax paper between the layers to keep them from sticking together. Place in a freezer bag and freeze for 2-3 months. Unwrap and thaw before serving.

TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Unwrap your chocolate kisses and place them in a bowl in the freezer.  This will keep them from melting into a puddle when you place them on the warm cookies later.
  • Use different kisses for the center of the cookies. Hershey’s has quite a few flavors that would taste great on these cookies.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before placing in a storage box or bag.
  • Change up the sprinkle colors for every holiday.  These would be so pretty in green and white sprinkles for St. Patrick’s Day, in red, white, and blue sprinkles for Fourth of July, or orange and white for Halloween.
  • If you are not a fan of sprinkles, roll the cookie dough in powdered sugar instead. They will look and taste just like chocolate crinkle cookies.
  • Do not over bake the cookies or they will be dry and crumbly. They will be slightly underdone when you take them out of the oven, but they will finish baking on the hot cookie sheet.
